Tanworth Garage has been servicing and fixing cars for several decades now.
Originally the site was used by the Summers family back in the 19th Century to cast large cog wheels and other components for use in the local flour mills.
One of the services offered by the Summers family was shoeing for horse’s and making steel bands for cart wheels, this is probably what lead to working on cars once they started to appear in the early 20th century. Cars were first worked on in 1914 and automobile work increased to such a level that an extension was added in 1924 for the sole purpose of working on cars, this is now the MOT bay for Tanworth Garage.
In the 1950’s the garage sold new cars along with petrol sales as well as servicing and repair of cars. Over the years the site has been used as a main agent for Morris Cars, Austin followed Fiat cars during the 1980’s. It also acted as a sales agent for Raleigh bicycles in the 50’s.
Today Tanworth Garage continues to offer servicing, repairs and MOT’s for all types of cars from classic cars to the latest high performance vehicles. The business is still independently run and takes great pride in its history.
